The Governance & Economics of the Ecosystem
LibreOffice is and always will be Free Software, come and hear about building a business around it, and understand the governance and structures that support the community: the Board, MC, ESC etc.
Details of the Talk
LibreOffice has many contributors, each with different skills and business models. Come and hear how the community project focuses it's resources on providing the best possible experience to individuals. Understand TDF's attempts to forward our mission of producing the best office suite ever by deliberately leaving spaces in the marketplace for companies to invest in and around the software, to earn revenue, and to re-invest it in further.
LibreOffice is primarily a meritocracy, whereby the people doing the work get to make the decisions; this is the bedrock of what we're about. Having said that, what do we do when people disagree? What is the role of the board? How do you become a member? What is the Membership Commitee? What does the Engineering Steering Committee do? And how does it do it? Where are all the formal processes we need?
Come and hear how our various institutions try to reduce conflict, do basic resource allocation and tackle the least interesting tasks so that community members are freed up to have fun.
