Details of the Talk
Working together on documents from different computers is a very useful feature for word processors. WebODF is software for viewing and editing ODF documents. We have given it the ability to let multiple users work on one document at the same time.
This talk includes an explanation of how collaborative editing was implemented and what editing features are supported. The protocol used to communicate between the instances of the document has similarities with the work being done in the ODF change tracking technical committee.
WebODF is implemented in pure JavaScript, but the protocol can be implemented in any programming language. The ultimate goal is the have collaborative editing on live document instances in different ODF implementations. Can users on LibreOffice, Microsoft Office and others connect and work together in the future? What is needed for this and what can be learned from the work done so far?
