Communication and user support in a challenging migration

Communication and user support are always important components of a successful migration. Especially when it is expected that moving to open source office software will clearly influence the work of employees. The migration of the headquarters of a Dutch NGO contains all these elements, and more, and is an interesting case to study.

Details of the Talk

Communication and user support are always important components of a successful migration. Especially when it is expected that moving to open source office software will clearly influences the work of employees. The migration of the headquarters of a Dutch NGO is such a case.
Because of the type of work of a part of the users, it was expected that migrating from MsOffice to OpenOffice/LibreOffice would clearly affect their work. Thus making it a challenging process.

Still the commitment of the management was strong because the whole office was planned to move to a Linux based thin client system, already in use by some regional departments, offering convincing advantages. Therefore the communication and support to users were planned in detail and in various steps.
Now, little more then a year after the start of the process, the migration entered it's final stage.

In this presentation details of the situation and motivation, the process will be given.
