LibreOffice development by the Hungarian Free Software Competence Center
This talk will introduce the Free Software Competence Center of the Hungarian Ministry of Public Administration and Justice, and our development activities related to LibreOffice.
Details of the Talk
LibreOffice is used in many different places in the Hungarian public administration, examples are municipalities and courts. We are trying to increase the rate of LibreOffice adoption by providing LibreOffice trainings as part of our pilot projects and by creating educational materials based on our experience gained during trainings.
Certain technical difficulties hinder our efforts. These difficulties are reported as problems by IT supporters of existing deployments, as well. Fortunately, we are able to start developing solutions to some of these problems. In my talk, I'll give an overview of our goals and the status of our developments.
- One of the problems to solve is the lack of freely available tools for the centralized management of LibreOffice. We have begun to develop such a tool, plus support for it in LibreOffice, and we are going to release it under a free license.
- Another problem is the lack of a centralized template/form management solution. We have found that the WollMux extension from the City of Munich could fill most needs of Hungarian organizations, if only it were a bit easier to use by non-German speakers. We are working on improving WollMux, so that it could better cater for the international community.
