The Post-PC world is here. Smart mobile devices have invaded our lives. Initially, they were cast into a role of meeting our consumption needs. However, as we began to get used to the little difficulties of using them, our behavioral patterns changed allowing us to be explore opportunities going beyond consumption. Today, the smart mobile device is crossing the threshold from consumption to production. Forty nine million users used them to regularly create, review, edit and share documents in 2012. With 750 million smart device users globally, the mobile productivity suite market is heavily underserved. In the next 3 years, 800 million people worldwide will be faced with the question: "Which productivity tool should I use to create, review or edit documents, spreadsheets and presentations on mobile devices".

The session will cover three broad areas:
Market Trends
As the mobile market grows, it is going through rapid growth and disruption. Understanding the disruption and the changing trends are key to building software that can be successful in the ever-changing market. In this section, we will cover statistical trends and research around:
  • What is the current make up and how is the device market evolving from the standpoint of the key technology players like Google, Microsoft, Apple?
  • What are industry information technology leaders looking for from mobile?
  • What kind of adoption do smart devices have with knowledge workers in the enterprise?
  • How are users using mobile devices in work environments?
  • What does the technology landscape look like for the productivity suite on mobile devices?
The above will give insight into what is important for users and businesses when it comes to content and information creation in a multi-platform world.
Learnings from the Front Line
CloudOn is a Top 10 Productivity app in 144 app stores around the world. Over 48 million documents and 7 million productivity hours have been spent in CloudOn. Users have generated over 1 billion functional events in CloudOn. The large volume of data we have collected allows us to understand user behavior in each of the productivity apps. In this section, we will cover:
  • How do users use a mobile productivity suite?
  • What are workflows and behavioral patterns on mobile for productivity?
  • How do create, review and edit stack up against each other?
  • How do documents, spreadsheets and presentations stack up against each other?
  • What activities, functions and needs do users have when they use a mobile productivity suite?
  • How do the patterns look like for mobile versus tablets?
The Mobile Productivity Suite for the 21st Century
CloudOn has an innovation lab called the "Skunkworks Group" which focusses on practically implementable visionary projects. One such project involves researching, testing and prototyping what the future of a mobile productivity tool looks like. As part of this presentation we will cover:
  • User Experience and User Interface Design for a tool through the demonstration of visual prototypes
  • Mobile-centric functionality that could change the game for productivity
  • A "view" into the world of a mobile worker with a powerful productivity tool that is based on the core Office functionality

The growth of tablets and smartphones, effectively new mobile editing devices, presents the Libre Office community with an opportunity to change the game and capture a large part of the unaddressed market. This presentation will outline the key ingredients for why the opportunity is so large and where it can take us.
