Getting-There
Milan Airports
- Milano Linate (code: LIN) for national and european flights by national carriers (http://www.milanolinate.eu/en). For instance, British Airways, Lufthansa, Iberia and Air France - amongst the others - operate here. The airport is close to Milan and is connected to the city center with a public bus. You can even get a taxi, although it will not be cheap.
- Milano Malpensa (code: MXP) for national, european and intercontinental flights by national and low cost carriers (1. http://www.milanomalpensa1.eu/en and 2. http://www.milanomalpensa2.eu/en). For instance, at Malpensa 1 operate national carriers while at Malpensa 2 operate low cost carriers (mostly EasyJet). The airport is 50 kilometres from Milan, and can be reached with a shuttle or a train. Avoid taxis, as they are outrageously expensive.
- Milano Bergamo (code: BGY) for low cost carriers, but essentially for Ryanair (http://www.sacbo.it/Airpor/portalProcess.jsp). The airport is 50 kilometres for Milan, and can be reached with a shuttle. Avoid taxis.
Unless you have a significant economic advantage, avoid Alitalia and AirOne for european flights, as they are very lousy (to use a gentle definition). Avoid Alitalia for intercontinental flights, unless you want to eat the worst food in your life and deal with the most rude crew you have ever met.
Milan Public Transport
Airport shuttles reach the Central Railway Station, where you can find a very easy connection with the underground system (which is the most convenient way for getting around in Milan: http://www.atm-mi.it/en/Pages/default.aspx).
Taxis are the most expensive worldwide, and are easy to spot because they have a lighted TAXI sign on the roof. If you decide to take a taxi, please do not complain as you have been warned in advance.
